Smith, Melvin W. 1952-2025 St. Joseph, Mo.

Melvin W. Smith, 73, of St. Joseph, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2025, at Mosaic Life Care, in St. Joseph. He was born June 16, 1952, in Cameron, Missouri, son of Margaret and Robert Smith.

He worked at as a Med Aide at Bliss Manor. He was a long time band member of Footloose and Midnight Express. Melvin enjoyed playing the guitar and music. He was a collector of hot wheels, was a devoted KC Chiefs fan and he loved his Pepsi and sweets. Melvin also formerly served as a Pastor at Full Faith Tabernacle Church.

He was preceded in death by his former wife, Virginia Smith; parents, Margaret Meppelink and Robert Smith; siblings, Joseph and Nathan Smith, Kathy Moss and grandson, Ryan Smith.

Survivors include children, Michelle (Jesse) Kendall, of Rock Port, Missouri, Brandy Seniceros, of St. Joseph, and Travis Smith, of St. Joseph; siblings, Tony Smith, Becky Tarter, Valerie Holland, Ruth Puttman; grandchildren, Steven (Emmalee), Tiffany, Gage, John (Kristy), and Taylor; great-grandchildren, Kooper, Liam, Noah, Caidence and Adalyn and expecting 2 more; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Smith has been cremated under the care of Rupp Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2025, at the Rupp Funeral Home. Memorials are requested to the Melvin Smith Memorial Fund, c/o Rupp Funeral Home.
