Hanway, George F. 1950-2025 St. Joseph, Mo.

George F. Hanway, 74, of St. Joseph, passed away Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at his home. He was born Dec. 12, 1950, in St. Joseph, son of Mary (Hart) and Charles Hanway.
He graduated from Christian Brothers, class of 1969. On Aug. 7, 1976, George married Lola Furlong. He worked at Silgan Containers, retiring after 40 years.
He loved the outdoors, especially enjoyed hunting including coon, deer and upland game. He also enjoyed farming and specifically enjoyed the fall harvest. George was a family man and loved spending time with his grandkids. He was a member of the St. James Catholic Church.
George was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Darlene Hanway; sons, Kenneth and Steve Billings; sister-in-law, Teresa Hanway; and brother-in-law, Mark Dunbar.
Survivors include son, Darren (Cathy) Billings, of Savannah, Missouri; daughters, Lorna (Anthony) Foster, of St. Joseph, Dayna Hanway and Dynese Hanway, of Chicago, Illinois; siblings, Kathleen (Ron) Lee, of Savannah, Joe Hanway, of St. Joseph, Virginia Dunbar of St. Joseph, Louis (Judy) Hanway, of St. Joseph, Barbara (Mike) Fimple, of St. Joseph, Rose (David) Schuerkamp, of Gallatin, Missouri; 12 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, July 18, 2025, at Rupp Funeral Home. A Rosary will be held at 5:30 p.m. Thursday with visitation following from 6 to 8 p.m. at Rupp Funeral Home. The Interment will be follow services at King Hill Cemetery. Memorials are requested to the St. James Catholic Church.
