Slayton, Dr. John W. 1941-2025 St. Joseph, Mo.

Dr. John William Slayton, 83, St. Joseph, passed away Monday, June 23, 2025. He was born on July 30, 1941, to parents John William Sr. and Margaret Elizabeth (Dobbins) Slayton ,in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
He valued care for others above all and carried this principle through his life and studies, emerging as a wise and skilled professional chiropractor and graduate from Cleveland Chiropractic College in Kansas City, Kansas. His education there was the foundation for a career marked by heartfelt service to his community.
John married Marsha Gale Slayton on June 15, 1975, a couple years after knowing each other. The passion John showed professionally was matched by his personal devotion to his wife of five decades. Their union was a testament to enduring love, one so strong that her passing in January 2025 left him with a sorrow only comforted by faith. He drew strength from his belief in God.
John’s commitment to his calling was evident in every aspect of his work. He founded the Slayton Chiropractic Center in St. Joseph, an establishment that became synonymous with hope and healing for the hundreds of individuals that he helped to improve their lives. The unique and customized techniques he developed for each patient not only alleviated their physical ailments but also inspired a sense of well-being that extended far beyond his clinic’s doors, and that gave him the admiration of his colleagues.
His legacy is one of dedication, and a profound belief in the healing power of both faith and hands for what he will be deeply missed but forever remembered for that healing touch he bestowed upon the world.
John’s memory will be cherished by his daughter, Margaret Elizabeth Slayton; his sister, Sharon Kuharich; sister-in-law, Mindy Spitzer; brother-in-law, Kieve Pearlman; and further extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marsha; and his daughter, Cindy Slayton.
