Peters, Velda M. 1940-2025 St. Joseph, Mo.

Valeda May Peters, 84, of St. Joseph, went to be with Jesus on Saturday, June 7, 2025, in a St. Joseph health care center. She was born June 14, 1940, in Sparks, Kansas, daughter of Ruby and Harvey Ruark.

She graduated from DeKalb, Missouri, High School and worked as a secretary for several businesses. She enjoyed crocheting and bowling. Valeda was a member of the Hillcrest Bible Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Joanne Smith; and a sister, Almeda Redmond.

Survivors include sister, Norma Gabriel, of Agency, Missouri; grandchildren: Robert Smith, Danni Smith, and Ronny Whitt; brother, Harvey (Becky) Ruark, of DeKalb.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at the Rupp Funeral Home. Funeral services and public live stream; 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 11, 2025, at the Rupp Funeral Home, Pastor Robert Wurtz officiating. The Interment will be at the Bethel Cemetery DeKalb. Memorials are requested to the Hillcrest Bible Church.
