George, Herbert M. 1926-2024 Troy, Mo.

TROY, Mo. – Herbert Merle George, 98, Troy, Missouri, formerly of St. Joseph, passed away Sunday, Dec. 29, 2024. He was born Oct. 14, 1926, in Gower, Missouri, to Oscar and Ollie (Anderson) George.

Herbert proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He married Ruth Ann Heydt on Dec. 31, 1947. She preceded him in death on Dec. 15, 1998.

In his earlier years, Herbert was owner/operator of several gas stations and car lots before working as a plumber at the State Hospital in St. Joseph until retirement.

He was a member of the Elks Lodge, and American Legion.

Herbert enjoyed fishing, building and woodwork.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth; his parents; and siblings, Harry, Vernon, Mary, Ruth, John, and Frank.

Survivors include his children, Judy Lindsey (Dale) and Mike George; grandchildren, Joshua Lindsey (Sara), Tammy Schupmann (Paul), Mike George Jr., and Chrissy George; great-grandchildren, Taylor, Tessa, Ashton, Hannah, and Jude; numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Farewell Services and Public Livestream 10 a.m. Saturday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. Interment Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will gather with friends 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory.
