KANSAS CITY, Mo. – James “Jim” C. Stuppy, age 79, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 19, 2024. Jim was born April 15, 1945, to George L. Stuppy and Helen G. Stuppy. He grew up in St. Joseph, graduated from Christian Brothers High School in 1963.
Jim attended Creighton University receiving a BSBA degree. At Creighton, he met Susan (Sue) Tracy, and they were married on Aug. 17, 1968. He furthered his education obtaining a master’s degree in economics from Oklahoma State University. He served in the United States Navy and obtained the rank of Lieutenant.
Jim and Sue moved to Kansas City, where he joined Stuppy, Inc., a wholesale floral and greenhouse supply company, as a fourth generation owner. He cared and wanted the best for the industries that the businesses served leading key trade organizations, Wholesale Florist & Florist Suppliers Association and the National Greenhouse Manufacturing Association. As part of the Kansas City business community, he was a member of YPO and KCPO.
Jim loved to travel and created countless memories with his family making each trip unique and special. He supported his children in their passions from swim meets, to coaching basketball, to golf tournaments, and he always made time for Sunday pizza or steak nights with the family.
He was a proud supporter of Kansas City Royals Baseball and could often be found cheering on the team at the “K” and from the comfort of his chair over the past few years. He loved the game of golf and instilled a passion for the game with each of his sons.
His Catholic faith was always at the center of Jim’s life. His instilled the importance of an active faith life in his children through his dedication to St. Patrick’s Parish.
Jim is survived by his wife of 55 years, Sue, of Kansas City; children, Matt (Kristen), of Overland Park, Kansas, Frank (Kelley), of Bartlett, Tennessee, John (Stephanie), of Bluffton, South Carolina, and Angela (Humberto), of Roseville, California. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, Joe, Sarah, George, Andrew, Larkin, Philip, Bridget, Julia, Ashlyn, Elisa, Karla and Mia.
He is preceded by his parents, George and Helen Stuppy; and his Cuban brother, Jose Cubria.
The family would like to thank Three Rivers Hospice Group, in Platte City, Missouri, for their excellent care.
Mass of Christian Burial 10 a.m. Friday, St. Patrick Catholic Church, Kansas City. Interment Mount Olivet Cemetery, St. Joseph. Parish Rosary 5 p.m. Thursday, St. Patrick Catholic Church, Kansas City. The family will gather with friends 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, St. Patrick Catholic Church, Kansas City, Missouri.
