ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (News-Press NOW) -- Every second Monday in October, the United States celebrates Indigenous Peoples' Day.

In 2021, former President Joe Biden became the first U.S. president to issue a presidential proclamation recognizing Indigenous Peoples' Day. Recently, President Donald Trump signed his own proclamation to 'reclaim' Columbus Day.

Indigenous Peoples' Day is used to celebrate and recognize the history and culture of Indigenous Americans.

News-Press NOW is speaking with St. Joseph Museums to learn more about the day.
