Scouting opportunities available for area youth

With the school year starting back up, Scouting is getting back in full swing.
Young people looking for an activity to get involved with are encouraged to sign up now, said Erik McGuire, the district director for the Pony Express Council of Scouting America.
“Cub Scouts and Scouts BSA provide fun programming with a purpose,” McGuire said. “Activities are focused on character, citizenship, personal fitness and leadership.”
Both boys and girls can join the program. Scouting builds youth development allowing youth to learn new skills and interests and practice sportsmanship and good citizenship, according to the Pony Express BSA website.
There are several Cub Scout packs (for those in kindergarten through fifth grade) and Scouts BSA Troops (for ages 11 to 17) in the St. Joseph area.
