Burgess, Michael 1959-2026 St. Joseph, Mo.

Michael Burgess, 66, of St. Joseph, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2026, at his home. He was born Dec. 2, 1959, in St. Joseph, son of Velma and William Burgess.

Mike attended Benton High School. He worked as a Carpenter for many years. He enjoyed fishing, taking float trips, watching TV and enjoyed the time spent working on his old Chevy pickups.

Michael was preceded in death by mother, Velma Mae Burgess; father, William LeRoy Burgess Sr.; sisters, Sharon Kay Russell and Dolores Burgess.

Survivors include his longtime companion, DeLonna Tracy, of the home; children, Dwayne (Crystal) Taylor, Dorena (Daryl) Watts, Shannon Burgess, and Rosanna (Richard) Burgess; brothers, Willie Burgess and George (Brenda) Burgess; sisters, Peggy Caples and Karen Chapman; 13 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2026, at the Rupp Funeral Home. Mr. Burgess will be cremated following services.
