Kansas City congressman condemns proposed DHS Detention Center as ICE vehicles are found in KC
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KQTV) -- U.S. Representative Emanuel Cleaver, II (D-MO) condemned the Department of Homeland Security's reported plans to build an immigration detention center in Kansas City, Missouri, in a Tuesday news release.
According to the reported plans, DHS intends to build several detention centers across the country, including in Kansas City, to hold approximately 80,000 immigrants.
DHS recently awarded a $29.9 million no-bid contract to an organization that had no previous history of government contracts to facilitate the plan.
The news release comes ahead of a report out of Kansas City through local CBS affiliate KCTV5, which is raising questions regarding the influx of potential ICE investigations in the city.
ICE vehicles were found in a parking lot at North Arlington Avenue and Northeast Parvin Road, right across the street from World's of Fun.
A Clay County GIS search shows the owner of the parking lot is Auto Truck Group LLC., a company that designs, manufactures and installs truck equipment.

City and federal officials have not confirmed the reason for the large number of ICE vehicles in the city, according to KCTV5.
KCTV5 said it has not learned of any connection between the ICE vehicles and the reported immigration facility coming to Kansas City. It also said it is working to learn about where the vehicles came from and where they are going.
KQ2 will provide updates as soon as they become available.
