Herbert Leo Wilson Sr. passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Jan. 3, 2026. Herbert Leo Wilson Sr. was born on Aug. 21, 1960, in St. Joseph, to Anna May Honeycutt and Irvin Wilson, the cherished baby of eight siblings.

He was preceded in death by his parents and six brothers and sisters, Beverly, Johnny, Jean, Mary, Henry, and Bill. He is survived by his sister, Alice Langston.

On Aug. 15, 1979, Herb married the love of his life, Renita Crail, and together they built a life full of love, laughter, and family.

Herb leaves behind his wife, Renita; his children, Herb Jr., Felicia (R.J.), Ciara (Kelli), and Nevin (Kaz); and eight grandchildren, Geofferey, Christopher, Embrie, Buck, Luna, Bobby, Nova, and Sierra, who brought him so much joy. He also leaves behind his loyal furbabies and many nieces and nephews who adored him.

Herb retired in May 2022 after 41 years as a nursing assistant at Mosaic (Heartland), a career that perfectly matched his kind, caring nature. He truly never met a stranger, everyone was family, and his presence could light up any room.

Herb loved sweet tea, mowing the grass, being outdoors, tinkering with cars, and fixing just about anything (especially with duct tape). Most of all, he will be remembered for his big heart, his sense of humor, and his constant desire to take care of the people he loved.

Celebration of Life at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the American Stroke Association.
