Missouri State Highway Patrol urges safe travels this holiday season
ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV)- The Missouri State Highway Patrol urges everyone to have safe travels this holiday season.
According to a release from the MSHP, there were 295 traffic crashes statewide during the 30-hour counting period. The data showed there were five people killed and 133 injured.
If you plan to travel this holiday season, obey all traffic laws, be aware of work zones, adjust your speed for the weather and ensure everyone in your vehicle is wearing a seatbelt. The Patrol reminds drivers that Missouri is a hands-free state. Put the phone down and buckle up.
The Patrol recommends travelers to use the MoDOT Traveler Information Map to plan their trips due to ongoing road construction across the state. The map provides up-to-date information such as construction zones, alternative routes, delays and road closures.
The public is encouraged to call the Patrol's Emergency Report Line 800-525-5555 or *55 if they observe driving behavior that could cause a crash, witness criminal activity or experience an emergency.
The Patrol wants to remind drivers that there is never a reason to speed, drive aggressively, or drive impaired. If drinking is part of your holiday festivities, designate someone else to drive.
