ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (News-Press NOW) -- The St. Joseph Persisterhood and the Buchanan County Women's Democratic Club will be hosting three upcoming events open to the public.

The Persisterhood will host its sixth peaceful rally against the "Trump/Missouri Dystopia" on Saturday, Sept. 20

The rally will take place from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at the intersection of Belt Highway and Frederick Avenue, on the East Hills Mall side.

Rally goers are welcome to bring signs, not only supporting environmental issues, but also advocating for democracy. They will also be able to sign the petition sponsored by "Respect MO Voters" to allow voters to vote in the November 2026 election on a constitutional amendment that, if successful, would keep the state's legislative bodies from overriding statewide majority votes.

First aid responders will be available at the rally. For more information, contact Rally Host, Diana Waddell at forglobalhealth@gmail.com or 816-262-4770.

The Buchanan County Women's Democratic Club will host its monthly meeting at noon on Tuesday, Sept. 23, at San Jose Steakhouse, located at 4015 S. Belt Highway.

Attendees who with to eat lunch should come at 11 a.m.

The club currently has 103 dues-paying members. Members will participate in "Action Blue!" and Democratic political activities.

For more information, contact Michelle Mears, the BCWDC president, at BCWDCpresident@gmail.com.

The St. Joseph Persisterhood will host a third event at 5:45 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 24, at the Rolling Hills Library's Upper Story Room at 1904 N. Belt Highway.

The meeting will not only be held in person, but also over Zoom. The meeting will begin with "Landscapes of Conflict, Echoes of Today," a slide presentation about emergency fascism. Persisterhood's Co-facilitator, Kelly Lacina, will present the topic.

Northwest Missouri Field Representative, Nancy Zeliff, will describe the "Respect MO Voters" petition drive underway to stop the state's legislature from rescinding ballot measures approved by voters.

For questions about the meeting or access to the Zoom link, contact Janet Pullen, the meeting's host at jpullen196@gmail.com or 816-341-4237. Those with questions can also contact Nancy Zeliff at ndzeliff@gmail.com or 660-652-9876.
