Buchanan County law enforcement responds to bus accident on I-29

BUCHANAN COUNTY, Mo. (News-Press NOW) -- A bus containing kids from a religious school in Westwood, Kansas, flipped over at the 35.2-mile marker on Interstate 29.

The St. Joseph Police Department sent out a Nixle Alert at 3:45 p.m. on Friday afternoon, telling drivers to avoid the area of northbound I-29 near southeast Grand DD due to a traffic accident.

The school name on the bus that flipped over reads "Olivet Baptist Church, Shawnee Mission Christian School".

Numerous emergency response teams, like the Northland Regional Ambulance, Buchanan County Sheriff's Office, Missouri State Highway Patrol and local fire departments are on site.

A school bus is being sent for the kids on board who were not injured. As of now, three kids were loaded onto a stretcher, according to a reporter on scene.

As of now, the number of kids on the bus is not confirmed.
