Flooding cancels last day of Wisconsin State Fair as severe storms knock out power and close roads
SUMMARY: Flash flooding canceled the final day of the Wisconsin State Fair as continued heavy rainfall in half a dozen Midwest states has led to water rescues, power outages and road closures. The National Weather Service has issued flood watches and warnings for parts of Kansas, Iowa, Nebraska, Missouri, Illinois and Wisconsin. Forecasters predicted repeated rounds of heavy rain, along with hail, damaging winds and isolated tornadoes. Among the worst hit is the Milwaukee area, where up to 14 inches of rain had fallen in some areas as of Sunday. USA Triathlon also canceled its Sprint and Paratriathlon National Championships in Milwaukee, where thousands were expected to compete.

US–Trump-Congress-Deportations
Trump’s big bill is powering his mass deportations. Congress is starting to ask questions
SUMMARY: Included in the Republican Party’s big bill of tax breaks and spending cuts is funding to power President Donald Trump’s deportation agenda. The nearly $170 billion is almost double the Department of Homeland Security’s annual budget and is raising alarms. Americans are watching scenes of immigrants being taken from city streets and job sites. Detention centers are rising in communities across the nation. The crush of new money is raising questions in Congress from lawmakers who are expected to provide oversight. Trump border czar Tom Homan insists they’re detaining and deporting the “worst of the worst.” But polling shows Americans’ views on the issue are shifting.

BKL–Lynx-Scheduling Quirk
Minnesota Lynx to face New York Liberty in 3 straight games in scheduling quirk
SUMMARY: The Minnesota Lynx have three straight games against the New York Liberty due to a scheduling quirk. A rematch of last season’s WNBA Finals feels in some ways like a playoff series for the Lynx, who beat the Liberty on Sunday 83-71 before traveling home. The team doesn’t play again until hosting New York on Saturday. The Lynx then return to Barclays Center to face the Liberty on Aug. 19, playing three times in nine days. New York doesn’t have the same luxury, heading west for back-to-back games against Los Angeles and Las Vegas on Tuesday and Wednesday before traveling to Minnesota.

SUMMARY: Kayla McBride scored 18 points and DiJonai Carrington added 15 to help the Minnesota Lynx beat the New York Liberty 83-71. The teams will meet three times over the next nine days with New York having back-to-back games on the west coast before heading to Minnesota to play Saturday. The Lynx are off until that game. Both sides were short-handed with New York missing Breanna Stewart (knee) and Minnesota playing without Napheesa Collier (ankle). This was the first game between the teams at Barclays Center since New York won the decisive Game 5 of the WNBA Finals last fall.

He also has stolen 17 bases in 17 attempts and is on pace for the second-most games in his 11-year major league career.

Megha Ganne gets her USGA title with dominant win over Biermann in US Women’s Amateur

Ganne will be a senior at Stanford. She has been playing USGA events for the last decade and reached the semifinals of the U.S. Women’s Amateur in 2019 at age 15.
