Tracking intense heat to start the week
Saturday is another intensely hot day. Temperatures will remain steady this evening in the upper 80s to low 90s, with heat index values hovering near or above 100. Overnight, we’re not expecting much relief from the heat, as lows will stay in the mid to upper 70s.
A Heat Advisory remains in effect for all of northwestern Missouri and northeastern Kansas. In addition, an Excessive Heat Warning went into effect this afternoon for far northwestern Missouri, including Andrew, Nodaway, and Holt Counties. Both alerts are expected to remain in place through Tuesday evening.
Relief from the heat finally arrives on Wednesday. A low-pressure system will bring in rain chances starting late Tuesday night and continuing into early Wednesday morning. Showers and occasional storms will linger through Wednesday and Thursday. As the system moves through, temperatures will take a noticeable drop.
By Wednesday, highs will fall by about 10 degrees, and another 10-degree drop is expected by Thursday. From Thursday through Saturday, highs are forecast to stay in the mid-70s—well below the seasonal average, which is typically around 89 degrees.
Scattered rain chances and cloud cover are expected to persist into the end of next week, along with the cooler-than-average temperatures.
