A second suspect has been arrested in connection to the fatal shooting Oct. 20 on Clark Lane, according to the Columbia Police Department.

Daevion McCray, 21, of Columbia was arrested Tuesday and charged with second-degree felony murder, two counts of first-degree assault, three counts of armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon, according to court records.

The victim, 28-year-old Orrion Moody, was found with a gunshot wound in the 4200 block of Clark Lane and died of his injuries several days later in the hospital.

Court documents state Moody’s brain death occurred on Oct. 23 at 11:43 a.m., citing University Hospital records.

One suspect, 19-year-old Tavion Johnson, was initially arrested and charged with first-degree assault, armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon.

Johnson given murder charge

A second-degree felony murder charge was filed against Tavion Johnson Tuesday afternoon.

Police said they were working with the prosecutor’s office to amend Johnson’s assault charges following the death of the victim, Orrion Moody.

Johnson is also charged with two counts of first-degree assault, three counts of armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon, online court records show.

Investigation is ongoing

Detectives reportedly found multiple weapons in a residence near where Moody was found, and a resident allegedly told detectives he fired between eight and 10 shots after he was fired upon by a group of people outside the residence, according to court documents. The witness reportedly identified McCray and Johnson as people in the group, according to court documents.

A witness reportedly told detectives that Johnson had posted a “threatening” video on Instagram before the shooting, according to court documents. Detectives allegedly found video of Johnson waving guns in front of the residence posted to the social media platform, and McCray was identified as being in the video in court documents filed Tuesday.

A victim reportedly told investigators McCray punched them while holding a gun in downtown Columbia about a month before the shooting, according to court documents.

Location data allegedly showed McCray’s and another suspect’s phones in the area of the shooting at the time police received reports of shots heard in the area, according to court documents.

Police say the investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Columbia Police Department at 573-874-7652 or provide information anonymously by calling CrimeStoppers at 573-875-8477.
