Police detained a male suspect after a chase and altercation resulted in a weapon being discharged near Ashland Avenue and Karnes Road.
St. Joseph Police Chief Paul Luster said the incident began around 4:30 p.m. when an Andrew County sheriff’s deputy was dispatched to an area around County Road 375 regarding a suspicious vehicle and occupant.
A vehicle pursuit began after the deputy arrived, which continued into Buchanan County before ending at Ashland Avenue and Karnes Road.
“After the pursuit, the deputy and the suspect got involved in a physical altercation,” Luster said. “A weapon was discharged during that altercation. There’s no injuries. The suspect was transported to the Andrew County jail.”
Luster said the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control is investigating the incident at the request of the Andrew County Sheriff’s Department.
Detectives and crime scene investigators remained on the scene recovering evidence at Ashland Avenue and Karnes Road Saturday night.
