20 Who Count: Karon Milbourn

By Kirsten Stokes
Striving to do everything for the glory of God, Karon Milbourn doesn’t see her acts of service as her own, but as a ministry to bring light and encouragement to others.
Spreading sunshine to nursing homes since May, Milbourn is a part of the “Sunshine Ladies.” Once a month, the group goes to Laverna Manor to share the gospel message and sing to the elderly.
“We were able to pray with them,” Milbourn said. “We always sing songs to them, and we always ask them what they need. It can be simple things like toothpaste or crafts. We write a list and make sure the next month we have it for them.”
Her heart for service continues in the drop-off line at St. Joseph Christian. When needed, Milbourn will greet the children in the morning and share a positive smile before they head to the classroom.
“I see these young kids and tell them to have a great day and just get a smile on their face,” Milbourn said. “Some of them might come in feeling grumpy so it’s always nice to see that turnaround.”
Her last opportunity for outreach lies on college campuses. With a granddaughter in college, she understands the importance and change that college can bring, so she makes cards for students.
“I’ll send cards to these young ladies and put a track in there sharing God’s love and testimony of how to get saved,” Milbourn said. The Sunshine Ladies, Eastside Baptist we’re getting that out there and letting those young kids know, even as believers, that they’re still being prayed for.”
Milbourn hopes to continue sharing the word of God and bring people to Christ.
“I just want to help them get back up on their feet, love them in Jesus Christ and push them upwards instead of pull them down,” Milbourn said.
