Whether it’s arriving early or staying late for her fellow nurses or patients, going above and beyond for others is simply in Christie Amos’ nature.

As a patient care representative with Mosaic Life Care’s Cardiac Cath Lab, Amos offers a calming voice for patients through prep and recovery for various procedures like biopsies and heart catheterizations, while also coordinating patient care within the unit.

“I try to be the smile on somebody’s face when they’ve had a hard day of nothing but bad news handed to them,” she said. “I want them to know they can call on me 700 times if they need to … there’s someone there to listen.”

Through her patient’s most trying times, Amos has spent countless hours as a supporter, coach and teacher not just for patients grappling with difficult and potentially life-changing health situations, but their families.

Amos is able to offer unique and profound guidance through first-hand experience with her battle with cancer. Amos was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2017 and fought a long battle that included 10 surgeries, chemotherapy and many difficult nights.

“I didn’t have anybody to tell me what was expected, so I want to make sure that they do,” she said. “People that come in for a biopsy, breast biopsy or lymph node biopsy, I’ve been there, I know.”

Long-term, Amos sees an even greater purpose mentoring and instilling strength for so many patients and families.

“Now you be the light for someone in your group or someone you don’t know,” she said. “I want them to know they can make a difference for someone else now.”Amos routinely receives messages and compliments from patients for her unwavering support and above-and-beyond care, never leaving for the day without checking in on everyone.

The culmination of Amos’ work came this September, when she was recognized with the highest honor a caregiver can receive, the Servant’s Heart Award.

“I never would have dreamed I got it,” she said. “I do my job every day not for an award or praise. If I can help one person out of the 20 we see a day, I did my job.”
