Compared to last week, North-Central auctions sold 4.00 to 8.00 higher and South-Central auctions were unevenly steady.

Southeastern auctions sold 3.00 to 8.00 higher. A

lighter offering of feeder cattle as we have entered the summer season where sale schedules turn to more of a biweekly schedule in the North and South Plains. There are some auctions however that have yearling specials and customer BBQs around the holiday. The Independence Day holiday will limit auction receipts next week however a couple large video auctions are planned this upcoming week.

Demand continues good to very good for yearlings, as cattle feeders that need to fill their pens know full well that if they don't get their needs met on that day, they might miss out.

Order buyers, farmer/feeders and internet buyers continue to bid readily for offerings that appeal to their eyes.

Active markets as sellers leave the sale with huge smiles and a check they should frame and hang on the wall.

As hot and humid temperatures creep into the heart of the summer, thunderstorms have found their way into the Plains as well. Some areas had seen the excessive heat followed by the unstable weather with several inches of rain moving from Wichita, KS up through Madison, WI.

Farmers are smiling as row crops are growing quickly as the rain has been plentiful the last couple of weeks.

Choice boxed beef keeps rising towards 400.00, as packers have reduced their daily slaughter totals and were able to take some market leverage back.

Negotiated sales of fed cattle in Kansas sold 3.00 lower at 222.00 to 225.00, mostly 225.00. In TX/OK/NM, live sales sold 4.00 lower at 223.00 to 225.00, mostly 224.00.

In Nebraska, live sales were 5.00 lower at 230.00 to 232.00; while dressed sales were 8.00 lower at 368.00.

For the week, Choice Boxed beef closed on Friday at 396.49, 5.99 higher and Select closed at 382.93, 5.98 higher.

Weekly Cattle Slaughter under federal inspection estimated at 560K, the same as last week and 50K less than a year ago.

The first half of the year, Cattle slaughter under federal inspection is 1 million head less than a year ago. Auction volume this week included 57% weighing over 600 lbs and 41% heifers.
