It’s Your Call for March 4

The wrong question The News-Press Ping Poll question, more opportunities for young athletes in St. Joseph, is the wrong question. The question is, do two high schools create more opportunities, period, not just for athletes, and the answer is yes. There are many more opportunities with two high schools. Which would you rather have? Which

More opportunities with three To the person who said that there are more opportunities with two high schools, where did you learn math? With three high schools, you have 33 boys on the field playing football, with two high schools you have 22. You got 15 boys and 15 girls playing basketball, with two high

Do some research To the person who thinks there are more opportunities at three schools than there are two, you need to do some research. Central has three times as many people involved in athletics as Benton and Lafayette. Central has more academic opportunities than Benton or Lafayette. The kids in Benton and Lafayette do

How quick they forget In regards to Trump withholding a military aid to Ukraine, it’s funny how quick Democrats forget that Biden withheld the aid and financial assistance to Israel, our ally in the Middle East, up until recently. Interesting to see It would be interesting to know how anyone could still vote for a

Spending money like drunken sailors The New York Post website says ignore the stock market, Wall Street dealing with painful detox from government spending addiction. Boy, isn’t that true? That was on Fox News. And I started clapping. Yep, they’re spending on money like a bunch of drunken sailors. Now let’s see if we can

Unappealing schools St. Joseph will never be attractive to new, young professionals until a new, state-of-the-art school is built. We’re a wonderful community, but our schools look like 1910 prisons, which are very unappealing to incoming young families. Town halls When will Sam Graves have an open town hall in St. Joseph? And when is

Healthy and glad I was looking at the paper here and it says, “Do you do anything to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day?” I celebrate every St. Patrick’s Day, which is my birthday. So, I celebrate it. I’m getting older every year, but I’m healthy and I’m glad. Be more cognizant With all the motorcyclists running

Very inconvenient That is so inconvenient you can’t get out of the South End to go north on King Hill. It’s been too long, and I don’t see them working on it anymore. What’s the deal? Not attractive To the guy wondering about the new young professionals needing good schools to move to St. Joe.

Finish the job I’m calling about the city trying, and I use that loosely, trying to repair S 36th St. It’s been going on almost two years. Why don’t they get somebody that knows what they’re doing? Apparently, the city doesn’t know how to finish a job. That things been tied up. I can’t even

Safety starts with the motorcyclist

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (News-Press NOW) — Spring’s arrival allows us to break the clutches of winter with long walks, cookouts, baseball and other outdoor activities. It also brings the roar of motorcycles, which was easily noticeable as soon as the mercury cracked 50. Unfortunately, it didn’t take long for St. Joseph to experience its first

Senate should reject all-or-nothing trans agenda

The somber decorum of the Missouri Senate has little in common with the boisterous, rainbow-flag-waving crowd at City Hall. Both groups, however, share a preoccupation with transgender individuals. The Democratic Party LGBTQ+ Caucus led a demonstration last weekend outside St. Joseph’s City Hall where protesters waved signs that read, “Trans Lives Matter” and “Trans Equality.”

By NewsPress Now Some free advice to the city Here’s some free advice for the City of St. Joe. Those downtown multi-level parking lots are nothing but bathrooms for the homeless. Knock them down and put in regular open parking lots. There would still be plenty of parking spaces for any event that’s held downtown.

One end leads to a new beginning

By Alonzo Weston Poet T.S. Eliot said it best perhaps: “And to make an end is to make a beginning. The end is where we start from.” That is very fitting as this is my last “Street Smarts” column in the St. Joseph News-Press. Where I go or what I do going forward is anyone’s
