US–Obit-Jim Edgar

Former Illinois Gov. Jim Edgar, a popular two-term Republican, dies at 79

SUMMARY: Family members say former Illinois Gov. Jim Edgar has died at 79. The popular two-term Republican was credited with guiding Illinois into a period of greater financial stability in the 1990s. Family members say he died from complications stemming from treatment for pancreatic cancer. Edgar was a former state legislator who also had served as Illinois secretary of state. He was first elected governor in 1990 and easily won reelection with bipartisan support. The moderate Republican remained a party statesman and was uneasy with his party’s shift to the right. He was part of a campaign last year to support Kamala Harris’ presidential bid.

Chiefs fall to 0-2 for first time since 2014 after loss to Eagles in Super Bowl rematch

SUMMARY: Patrick Mahomes threw two deep passes in the final minutes of the Kansas City Chiefs’ 20-17 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. Both passes were intended for Tyquan Thornton. The first was an overthrow, missing an easy touchdown, highlighting the Chiefs’ offensive struggles. The second was a late completion, symbolizing their recent close-but-not-enough performances. The Chiefs are now 0-2 for the first time since 2014. They are missing key players, including Rashee Rice, due to suspensions and injuries. FBN–On Football-Tush Push

Problems officiating the tush push could be the new argument to support banning it

SUMMARY: The Super Bowl rematch turned into bully ball highlighted by the NFL’s ugliest play. Jalen Hurts, Saquon Barkley and the Philadelphia Eagles pushed — literally — their way past Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs, 20-17, on Sunday. Hurts scored a touchdown on a tush push and the Eagles used the play seven times to help hand the Chiefs their first three-game losing streak with Mahomes and send them to their first 0-2 start since 2014. The NFL tried to ban to the tush push following a proposal from the Green Bay Packers in the offseason but fell two votes short of eliminating it.

J.J. McCarthy’s rough home debut: What went wrong for the Vikings?

SUMMARY: Vikings quarterback J.J. McCarthy struggled against the Atlanta Falcons, completing 11 of 21 passes for 158 yards in a 22-6 loss. He was sacked six times and committed three turnovers.
