PBS, NPR stations struggle with Trump-fueled government funding cuts

SUMMARY: A month after Congress voted to strip public media of public money, PBS and NPR stations are working to cope — and survive. More than 500 radio and television stations are affected, and while some have issues in common, most have problems and strategies unique to their own area. For example, the PBS station in Spokane, Washington, has turned to viewers for emergency donations, but a significant part of their membership is from Canada, and many are already angry with the U.S. because of President Donald Trump’s drive to make the country the 51st state. Many stations are heartened by the way viewers are responding, and different ideas to save money are emerging.

FBC–T25-Poll Preview

AP Top 25 poll preview: Defending national champion Buckeyes are poised to return to No. 1

SUMMARY: As wrestling great Ric Flair famously said, to be the man, you gotta beat the man. Defending national champion Ohio State is still the man in college football. The purveyors of preseason rankings had anointed Texas because of what in retrospect was an overabundance of unjustified hype surrounding Arch Manning. Reality hit at the Horseshoe on Saturday, and now the Buckeyes are poised to jump Penn State and return to No. 1 when The Associated Press’ first regular-season Top 25 drops Tuesday. Look for No. 9 LSU to garner support for No. 1 after its 17-10 win over No. 4 Clemson.

FBN–Vikings-Brosmer

Max Brosmer makes an impact wherever he lands, as undrafted Minnesota QB sticks with Vikings

SUMMARY: Nobody who’s been around Max Brosmer from his youth in Georgia to his FCS success at New Hampshire to his lone season of Big Ten competition at Minnesota is surprised he made an NFL active roster as an undrafted rookie. Brosmer impressed the Vikings enough to land a spot as likely the No. 3 quarterback this year behind J.J. McCarthy and Carson Wentz. The coaching staff has been impressed by his dedication, coachability and intelligence. Brosmer visited his old team the Gophers for their season opener and even got a game ball for his impact on his successor Drake Lindsey.

CAR–NASCAR-Playoffs

Briscoe, JGR, Toyota all make big statements at Darlington Raceway to start the NASCAR playoffs

SUMMARY: Chase Briscoe made a big statement in NASCAR’s opening playoff race at Darlington. Joe Gibbs Racing and Toyota also showed that this won’t be like past postseasons. Briscoe won his second straight Southern 500, outlasting Tyler Reddick at the end in leading 309 of 367 laps. Briscoe’s JGR teammate Denny Hamlin finished seventh, and the duo are 1-2 in the playoff standings. There were six Toyotas in the top seven, including those of playoff contenders Reddick and Bubba Wallace of 23XI Racing. Team Penske drivers have won the previous three Cup Series crowns and Hendrick teams the two before that.
