Ex-New Mexico guard Donovan Dent ready to shine at UCLA as one of college basketball’s top transfers

SUMMARY: UCLA guard Donovan Dent embraces the responsibility that comes with playing for one of college basketball’s most storied programs. The former New Mexico guard grew up not far from UCLA’s campus and admired former Bruins point guard Lonzo Ball. Dent now wants to build on the success he enjoyed last season while leading New Mexico to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.  The 2025 Mountain West Conference player of the year enters this season as one of the most notable transfers.

Moultrie has 2 goals in 3-1 USWNT victory over Portugal

SUMMARY: Olivia Moultrie scored two goals and the U.S. women’s national team bounced back against Portugal with a 3-1 victory on Sunday after honoring former goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher. The United States was coming off a 2-1 loss to Portugal in the first game of the international window on Thursday in Chester, Pennsylvania. It was Portugal’s first victory over the U.S. and just the third loss for the national team under coach Emma Hayes. Sam Coffey also scored for the United States.

Macklin Celebrini scores in overtime to lift Sharks past Wild, 6-5

SUMMARY: Macklin Celebrini scored an unassisted goal at 3:47 of overtime to give the San Jose Sharks a 6-5 victory over the Minnesota Wild on Sunday. Celebrini, who also had two assists, gathered a loose puck in the San Jose zone after Yaroslav Askarov made a save on Brock Faber, raced in alone and beat Jesper Wallstedt. William Eklund scored twice and Michael Misa, Ryan Reaves and Tyler Toffoli also connected for the Sharks. Askarov made 28 saves. Joel Eriksson Ek scored with 2:18 left in regulation to cap a three-goal third period for Minnesota. Kirill Kaprizov had his third assist of the game on the goal, giving him 400 career points.

Timberwolves hang on to beat depleted Pacers 114-110, after Edwards exits early with tight hamstring

SUMMARY: Julius Randle had 20 of his 31 points in the first half and Rudy Gobert added 14 points and 19 rebounds, helping the Minnesota Timberwolves hold on after an early exit by star Anthony Edwards to beat the depleted Indiana Pacers 114-110. Edwards was pulled with hamstring tightness. Donte DiVincenzo held together the backcourt and Naz Reid pitched in too. Pascal Siakam hit 33 points for the Pacers on his 3-pointer with 42 seconds left to cut their deficit to 110-108. Jaden McDaniels answered with a finger-roll to push the lead to four with 20 seconds remaining.

Pacers sideline Mathurin with toe sprain, play Timberwolves with 7 players unavailable

SUMMARY: The Indiana Pacers have ruled out leading scorer Bennedict Mathurin for their game against Minnesota on Sunday night. Mathurin suffered a big toe sprain during Indiana’s loss to Memphis on Saturday after scoring 26 points in 28 minutes. Coach Rick Carlisle did not provide a timetable for his return. Rookie Taelon Peter, starting point guard Andrew Nembhard, and backup guard Johnny Furphy are also sidelined. Star Tyrese Haliburton, backup T.J. McConnell, and rookie Kam Jones remain out with longer-term injuries. The Pacers beat the Timberwolves in overtime last season in Minnesota with four starters out.

The Timberwolves leaned on the play-making of Julius Randle and several other role players to pull out the win over Indiana. Edwards converted a layup in traffic off a fast break with 3:07 elapsed in the game against Indiana. He took hard contact and was subbed out during a Pacers timeout one second later. Edwards has played in 426 of a possible 445 games, including the playoffs, in his career.

Former NFL star Adrian Peterson arrested in Houston suburb on DWI and gun charges

SUMMARY: Records show that former NFL running back Adrian Peterson has been arrested in a Houston suburb on charges of driving while intoxicated and unlawfully carrying a weapon. Houston television station KHOU reports Peterson was taken into custody Sunday in Sugar Land. It’s the second DWI arrest in seven months for the 2012 NFL MVP and three-time league rushing champion. The 40-year-old Peterson was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving in Minneapolis in April. The Texas native spent the first 10 years of his NFL career with the Minnesota Vikings.

Byron outduels Blaney for victory at Martinsville and NASCAR Championship 4 berth

SUMMARY: With a Championship 4 spot on the line, William Byron put the bumper to Ryan Blaney to win at Martinsville Speedway in the third-round finale of the NASCAR Cup Series playoffs. Byron made his winning move with 43 laps remaining, seizing the bottom lane in Turn 1 and moving Blaney up the track by tagging him in the left rear. The Hendrick Motorsports driver led the rest of the way and fended off Blaney on a restart with 11 laps remaining. Starting from the pole position, Byron led a race-high 304 of 500 laps for his third victory this season.
