US-Sex Education-Planned Parenthood
A judge has blocked a Trump administration effort to change teen pregnancy prevention programs
SUMMARY: A judge has blocked new requirements for teen pregnancy prevention grantees. The case is a victory for Planned Parenthood affiliates who sued President Donald Trump’s administration over policy guidance issued in July. The administration was calling for the education programs they and other grantees run to steer clear of “radical indoctrination” and “gender ideology.” A federal judge rejected the policy document, finding that it was too vague and that it was “motivated solely by political concerns.” The grantees include some Planned Parenthood affiliates and dozens of other groups. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services declined to comment on the ruling.

US–Governors Association-Political Tensions
Bipartisan US governors’ group faces division over Trump’s deployment of troops to states
SUMMARY: Democratic governors from California and Illinois are threatening to leave the National Governors Association unless it denounces President Donald Trump’s troop deployments to states. California Gov. Gavin Newsom and Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker contend that Trump’s deployment of the Guard against a governor’s will is a violation of state sovereignty. The bipartisan group, founded in 1908, usually advocates for issues where governors find common ground. However, some Republican governors support Trump’s actions, and the group hasn’t taken a position on the troop deployments. Democratic governors from Kansas, Michigan, and Minnesota have already left the association this year.

Abortion providers say Missouri’s attorney general is trying to get patient records
SUMMARY: Planned Parenthood officials say in court filings that Missouri’s Republican attorney general is trying to get the medical records of patients who’ve had abortions. Planned Parenthood officials and five individuals connected with the abortion provider’s Kansas City and St. Louis affiliates are trying to get a judge to quash subpoenas issued by the state starting in late August. Planned Parenthood officials said Tuesday that patients have a right for their records to be kept private. Meanwhile, a judge approved revised ballot language for a measure that would overturn abortion rights protections approved by the state’s voters in November. Those protections overturned a near ban on abortion.

US–Immigration-Rural Staffing
Trump’s $100,000 H-1B visa fee threatens rural schools and hospitals reliant on immigrant workers
SUMMARY: The new $100,000 fee for H-1B visas spells trouble for rural parts of the U.S. that rely on immigrants to fill vacancies in skilled professions. Small communities often face workforce shortages in critical sectors like health care and education, struggling to attract American workers from other parts of the country. International medical graduates frequently accept positions in these underserved areas, while immigrant teachers with advanced training fill essential roles from elementary school classrooms to special education. Some groups are now seeking exemptions from the Trump administration for health care professionals and K-12 educators as experts warn the fee will prove insurmountable for rural communities lacking the resources to absorb the cost.

Deion Sanders will undergo a procedure related to blood clots, plans to coach Colorado this weekend
SUMMARY: Colorado coach Deion Sanders is undergoing a procedure related to his blood clots. He hopes to be back at practice the next day and on the sideline this weekend against Iowa State. Sanders provided a medical update Tuesday, saying the issue is hereditary and not related to his work level. He experienced pain during a recent game at TCU, where he was seen limping and not wearing a shoe on his left foot. Sanders has faced blood clot issues before, leading to the amputation of two toes in 2021. He remains optimistic about his recovery.

FBN–Kicking Balls
Why NFL field goals are getting longer, and what’s changed this season
SUMMARY: NFL kickers are now making long-distance field goals more frequently, with many kicks exceeding 60 yards. This shift has sparked questions about whether the balls are altered. A rule change this year allows teams to prepare kicking balls before game day, leading to more consistent performance. There already have been four kicks of at least 60 yards this season, close to the single-season record. The new rules also have impacted punts, with average distances increasing. Kickers say the broken-in balls add a few extra yards to their kicks.

HKN–Golden Knights-Eichel Contract
Eichel dismisses McDavid’s discount deal as irrelevant to his contract talks with Golden Knights
SUMMARY: Jack Eichel said Connor McDavid’s contract extension with Edmonton doesn’t affect his own talks with Vegas. McDavid signed a two-year, $25 million deal Monday, giving the Oilers a hometown discount. Eichel is in the final season of an eight-year contract. He is expected to seek terms similar to Kirill Kaprizov’s eight-year, $136 million deal. Golden Knights general manager Kelly McCrimmon emphasized Eichel’s importance to the team. Eichel scored a career-high 94 points last season and will play alongside Mitch Marner and Ivan Barbashev.

Oklahoma to add padding to brick wall around field after injury to receiver Keontez Lewis
SUMMARY: Oklahoma plans to add padding to the brick wall around Owen Field after receiver Keontez Lewis ran into it headfirst over the weekend. Coach Brent Venables said details aren’t clear yet, but padding will be added to the vulnerable area. Lewis was injured during Oklahoma’s 44-0 win over Kent State on Saturday. In the first quarter, a pass was overthrown, and Lewis’ momentum took him into an unpadded section of the wall. He was carted off after being attended to for about 10 minutes. Venables said Monday that Lewis is doing well and is in great spirits.
