US–BEST BUY-RESULTS

Best Buy cuts its annual profit and sales outlook as it wrestles with tariffs

SUMMARY: Best Buy cut its annual outlook for profits and sales on Thursday after the nation’s largest consumer electronics chain reported a profit decline and stagnating sales for its fiscal first quarter amid shoppers’ worries about the economy and tariffs. The Minneapolis-based company said the outlook assumed that tariffs will remain at the current levels for the rest of the year, and “there is no material change in consumer behavior” in the trends it has seen in recent quarters. Like other retailers, Best Buy has been wrestling with an ever-changing tariff news. And adding more confusion was that the federal court in New York on Wednesday handed President Trump a big setback Wednesday, blocking his audacious plan to impose massive taxes on worldwide imports.

US–PAID SICK LEAVE-NEBRASKA

DESCRIPTION: OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Nebraska lawmakers passed a bill Wednesday night that significantly weakens a voter-backed measure requiring employers to offer paid sick leave. Republicans who backed the bill got a rare boost from a Democrat, Sen. Jane Raybould, whose family owns grocery stores. Raybould was also the main sponsor of another bill to roll back a voter-backed minimum wage law. Her attempt to attach that bill to the paid sick leave measure on Wednesday failed. By Margery A. Beck. UPCOMING: About 600 words.
