US–Democrats-Governors
Democratic governors may offer a path forward for a party out of power in Washington
SUMMARY: Democrats are out of power in Washington but hold 23 governors’ seats, including in five of the seven presidential battlegrounds Donald Trump swept last year. Some Democratic activists see that slate as the party’s best counter to the Republican president and evidence the party is not in as much disarray at it might sometimes seem. U.S. Rep. Mikie Sherrill is leaving the House minority to run for New Jersey governor. Sherill says the statewide job matters because governors have to get things done to improve people’s lives. Sitting Democratic governors have won minimum wage increases, expanded Medicaid insurance coverage and shored up abortion rights. The question is whether Democrats can scale those victories to federal elections.

ENT–Obit-Loni Anderson
Popular 1980s actor Loni Anderson of the hit TV series ‘WKRP in Cincinnati’ has died
SUMMARY: Loni Anderson, who played a struggling radio station’s empowered receptionist Jennifer on the hit TV comedy “WKRP in Cincinnati,” has died. It was just days before her 80th birthday. Her longtime publicist says Anderson died at a Los Angeles hospital following a prolonged illness. “WKRP in Cincinnati” aired from 1978 through 1982 and was set in a lagging Ohio radio station trying to reinvent itself with rock music. As the station’s receptionist, Jennifer’s efficiency often kept the station running in the face of others’ incompetence.

US–Boeing-Strike
Thousands of Boeing workers who build fighter jets and weapons go on strike
SUMMARY: Several thousand workers at three Midwest manufacturing plants where Boeing develops military aircraft and weapons are on strike early. The strike started early Monday at Boeing facilities in St. Louis; St. Charles, Missouri; and Mascoutah, Illinois, after about 3,200 local members of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers voted to reject a modified labor agreement. It included a 20% wage increase over four years and $5,000 ratification bonuses. The walkout potentially complicates Boeing’s progress in regaining its financial footing following a bruising 2024. Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg told analysts last week that the impact would be much less than a walkout last year by 33,000 workers who assemble the company’s commercial jetliners.

CAR–NASCAR-Cup-Iowa
William Byron has enough fuel to win NASCAR Cup race at Iowa Speedway
SUMMARY: William Byron fought off fuel worries in the closing laps to win the NASCAR Cup Series race Sunday at Iowa Speedway. Byron went the last 144 laps of the 350-lap race without a stop en route to his second victory of the season — he won the Daytona 500 in February — and 15th overall. He also took the season points lead from Hendrick Motorsports teammate Chase Elliott. Byron lost gambles on fuel twice this season, at Michigan and Indianapolis, but held on with the help of a caution-filled final stage to win by 1.192 seconds over pole-sitter Chase Briscoe. Byron led 141 laps. Brad Keselowski was third. He came into the race needing a win to get into the playoffs.

William Byron thinks Iowa win can build momentum for NASCAR’s playoffs
SUMMARY: William Byron was already locked into the NASCAR Cup Series playoffs and was second in the regular-season point standings heading into Sunday’s race at Iowa Speedway. Still, Byron didn’t like how things were going heading into the closing stretch of the regular season. Byron had five finishes of 27th or worse in the last eight races, and coming to a track where he has had success in the past, he wanted to regain some confidence with the playoffs approaching. Sunday’s win at Iowa Speedway helped build confidence for the rest of the season.
