US–NCAA-ELIGIBILITY LAWSUITS
DESCRIPTION: Legal battles over college sports eligibility seem to be slowing down. With fall football practice starting, players hoping for court rulings to play may be disappointed. Sam Ehrlich is a legal studies professor at Boise State who tracks lawsuits against the NCAA. He notes that it’s likely too late for new cases to impact this season. Ehrlich has a spreadsheet tracks 27 eligibility lawsuits with 15 active and football has the most cases. Some schools help by filing waivers, while others leave athletes in limbo. The NCAA would like limited liability protection from Congress to address eligibility lawsuits. Courts have returned inconsistent results for players seeking another season. By Teresa M. Walker.
