WARRENSBURG, Mo. -Edward Eugene Holmes, age 99, passed away on Monday, June 16, 2025, at the Veterans Home in Warrensburg, Missouri. He was born on April 7, 1926, at the family home near Belle Plaine, Kansas, the son of Stephen and Ella (nee Crabtree) Holmes.

Edward was a World War II veteran, serving with distinction in the U.S. Navy Pacific Fleet.

Edward was a member of First Lutheran Church, St. Joseph.

Edward had a life-long association with growing all kinds of fruits and vegetables and especially flowers. As a youth, Edward worked on area farms growing food to earn money and provide support to the family. Returning home from WW 2, Edward resumed his love of growing plants, making his vocation in the floral industry. Edward owned, operated and managed greenhouses, floral shops and finished his career as a salesman of supplies to floral shops.

Edward is survived by his son, Brad (Lynn) Holmes; two daughters-in-law, Claren Holmes and Sharon Holmes; six grandchildren, Travis Holmes, Troy Holmes and Kim Kantrowitz, Amy Rowland, Mathew Holmes, Megan Brooks; and various nieces, nephews and great-grandchildren.

He was proceeded in death by his parents; siblings and his wives, Blanche Sathowaite, JoAnn Bradley; and sons Gary, Owen.

Funeral Services will be held on July 26, 2025, at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, Lee’s Summit, Missouri. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. with the funeral service beginning at 2 p.m.

A Celebration of Life will follow the funeral serve beginning at 4PM at the Gamber Community Center, Lee’s Summit. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, (www.alz.org). As published in the St. Joseph News-Press.
