ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (News-Press NOW) -- City council members approved a resolution at its recent meeting to allow the St. Joseph Parks and Recreation department to purchase two new John Deere mowers.

The department was approved for the specified amount of $44,717.65 through the use of park sales tax funds.

"We've got 1500 acres that we maintain," Parks Director Jeff Adkins said. "There's a lot of mowing going on out there every day between our ball field crews and our-our smaller park crews."

Adkins said the additional mowers will help with maintaining city property.

"We've probably have eight guys a day mowing out on the boulevard system," said Adkins. "In all, we'll have 15 plus mowers running at any time throughout the day."

The models will be a John Deere Z997R and a Z994R mower, both run by diesel fuel, which are anticipated to be deployed later this year.
