Tracking a damp start to the holiday weekend

Temperatures are continuing to warm through the week across the St. Joseph area. Today, highs reached into the 90s, and humidity began to make a return—though it's not quite as muggy as it was a few weeks ago. Tonight, temperatures will cool off into the 70s across most of the region, and we’ll remain dry and clear.

Southerly winds will continue to help temperatures climb even more on Thursday, with highs expected in the low to mid-90s. Thursday looks to be our last fully dry day, with no rain chances in the forecast.

Looking ahead to the 4th of July, rain chances have decreased slightly to 20%. Most of the holiday is expected to stay dry, though it will feel humid. Rain chances increase later in the evening and overnight. While most of the rain is expected to hold off until around midnight, a stray shower could pop up in the late evening. Any rain that does fall should be light—not a complete washout—but something to keep an eye on.

Saturday is shaping up to be the wettest day, with the highest rain chances during the morning hours (6 a.m. to 12 p.m.), and another potential round in the evening. Unfortunately, these rain chances continue into Sunday, Monday, and even Tuesday, making for a soggy start to the work week after the holiday.

While I don’t think the rain will completely ruin any plans, just remember: when thunder roars, go indoors. And if you have any outdoor activities, it’s a good idea to pack an umbrella—just in case.
