Royals’ Bobby Witt Jr. set to play for Team USA in the 2026 World Baseball Classic

ST JOSEPH, Mo. (News-Press NOW) -- Kansas City Royals star shortstop, Bobby Witt Jr., announced he will be playing for Team USA in next year's World Baseball Classic. The 2024 American League MVP runner-up played for Team USA in the 2023 WBC, but in a limited role.
Since his debut for the Royals in 2022, he has solidified himself as one of the best shortstops and most exciting players in the MLB.
With the heartbreak of the 2023 WBC finals loss to Japan in the rearview, Team USA is looking to bring home the gold.
"It's an honor. It's something that I kind of dreamed about my whole entire life. Just being a part of that team a couple years ago, it was amazing. Now we want to bring home the gold," Witt Jr. said to the MLB Network.
Having experienced the WBC from a limited role, Witt Jr. will get the full experience as the starting shortstop for Team USA.
