Tracking summer-like temperatures through the weekend
Get ready for some summer heat. It's time to grab the sunscreen and head outdoors. This weekend is shaping up to be a warm one across the region.
Temperatures Friday evening will hold steady in the mid to upper 70s through the overnight hours. The cloud cover currently blanketing much of the area will begin to clear, setting us up for a sunny start to Saturday.
Expect mostly sunny skies to kick off the day on Saturday, but clouds will gradually build back in by late afternoon. By the evening, a small weather system may bring a few thunderstorms to areas south of us, particularly near Kansas City and along the I-70 corridor. Most of our viewing area, however, is expected to remain dry.
Similar conditions are expected Sunday, with highs climbing into the upper 80s. A weak system may bring some light rain and a few rumbles of thunder during the early morning hours. Otherwise, much of the day should stay dry and warm.
Looking ahead, temperatures will continue to rise, with daytime highs in the upper 80s and low 90s from Monday through Friday. On Monday, there’s a low end chance for a few strong storms. That risk increases Tuesday into Wednesday, particularly across northwest Missouri, where conditions could support stronger storm development.
The Storm Tracker Weather Team will closely monitor this evolving system and provide updates as forecast confidence improves. Behind that midweek system, dry and sunny weather is expected to return just in time for the first day of summer on Friday, June 20.
