Tracking scattered rain chances Sunday evening

We had a very wet start to our Saturday, with the St. Joseph airport recording 1.14 inches of rain. The rain cleared quickly, leaving behind sunny skies. Conditions this evening are expected to remain dry and seasonable, with temperatures climbing into the mid 70s before sunset. Overnight, skies will stay clear and dry as temperatures drop into the low 60s.

Looking ahead to Sunday, we’ll start the day dry. However, there is a chance of rain and thunderstorms by late afternoon and evening. The Storm Prediction Center’s latest outlook shows a tight gradient south of Highway 36, with Level 1 and Level 2 severe weather risks in that area. The primary threats include large hail and damaging winds, especially near Kansas City and east of Interstate 35. While storms are expected to strengthen as they move south, the risk for the St. Joseph area remains low, but not zero. Rainfall is not expected to be as intense as Saturday’s.

After Sunday’s rain chances, conditions will dry out, and temperatures will climb midweek into the mid to upper 80s, potentially reaching near 90 degrees by Wednesday. Our next weather system is expected to affect the region Thursday into Friday.
