Lila G. Albertson, 104, a lifelong resident of St. Joseph, passed away Sunday, Feb. 4, 2024.

She was born on Sept. 21, 1919, to Hugh Taylor and Lila Gladys (Black) Montgomery, in Faucett, Missouri.

Lila graduated from NWMSU and later earned her master’s degree from the University of Iowa. She was called towards a career as an educator, where she proudly dedicated her time to the education of children for the St. Joseph School District for over 40 years. She served as the principal at Blair & Pickett, and also taught at Hall Elementary School.

On Nov. 11, 1942, she married Charles O. Albertson. He preceded her in death on July 3, 1944.

She was a member of the AAUW (American Association of University Women) for 50 years, as well as being a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, St. Joseph Retired Teachers Association, Missouri Retired Teachers Association, Runcie Club, and the McCarthy Baptist Church.

Lila enjoyed reading, especially mystery novels, Christian novels, and historical fiction and non-fiction stories.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles; daughter, Charla G. Buckey; and sisters, Dorothy Slater, Doris Clevenger and Etta Matzes.

Survivors include her grandchildren, Alanna Iannone (Patrick), Alyssa Buckey (Dan), and Troy Buckey (Renee); numerous great-grandchildren; and friends.
