ELWOOD, Kan. – Marvin Lee Huey 88, of Elwood, Kansas, passed away Thursday, Nov. 14, 2024, at Mosaic Life Care, in St. Joseph. He was born Aug. 24, 1936, in Richmond, Missouri, son of Stella and Thomas Huey. He graduated from Lafayette High School. Following high school, he enlisted into the United States Army and served from 1954-1958. On Jan. 3, 1989, he married Hortencia “Tangie” Flores. Marvin spent many years working as a Union Laborer, proudly working on many projects in the area. He was a member of Labors Union Local 579, where he served as a past board member, and member of the VFW Post 6760. He enjoyed spending time at his local pub hangouts and at Big Lake.

Marvin was preceded in death by wife, Hortencia “Tangie” Huey; his parents; bonus children, Rick Allen and Rebecca Gann; siblings, Myrtle Harper, Tom Huey, and Dale Huey; granddaughter, Amber; and great-grandson, Storm.

Survivors include: children, Scott (Tonia) Huey, of Platte City, Missouri, Marla (Jonathan) Martindale, of Merkel, Texas, Marvina (Billy) Piveral, of St. Joseph, Ruthanna Thompson, of St. Joseph; bonus children, Marta Allen, of St. Joseph, and Hope (Mike) Vette; sister, Betty Starcher, of Richmond; grandchildren, Chris, Brian, Donnie, Jory, Tolby, Cierra, Angela, Makayla, Hanna, Jack, Rick, and Amanda; and great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Mr. Huey has been cremated under the care of Rupp Funeral Home.

A private family Celebration of Life will be held with a public Celebration of Life to be held at later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to the VFW Post 6760.
