NEW EVENT: Tuesday, Feb. 03 Partial shutdown of federal government continues amid ICE funding dispute – Partial shutdown of U.S. federal government continues after members of Congress failed to pass legislation containing the remaining appropriations. Democrats in the Senate pulled their support for the legislative vehicle containing Department of Homeland Security after ICE fatally shot two U.S. citizens in Minneapolis. Negotiations are expected to continue between the two parties this week. Departments affected include DHS, Transportation, State, and Defense * Shutdown likely furloughs federal employees in impacted departments from work, except those whose jobs ‘protect life and property’ who are expected to work without pay. It also sees closures to federal facilities, and probably delays passport and visa applications and Medicare approvals. Former shutdowns have also led to heavy disruption of air travel and the closure of national parks
