EVEREST, Kan. – Macrina “Mickey” Marie Schecher, 94, of Everest, Kansas, passed away peacefully on Dec. 2, 2025, at North Kansas City Hospice, Kansas City, Missouri, leaving behind a legacy of laughter, warmth, and boundless energy that touched everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Mickey’s celebration of life will include a Rosary at 5:30pm with visitation from 6 to 8 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 7, 2025, at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home in Atchison, Kansas.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 1:30 p.m., Monday, Dec. 8, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Purcell, Kansas.
Burial will follow at St. Bernards Catholic Cemetery, Wamego, Kansas.
Mickey was born Feb. 15, 1931, in Wamego. She is the daughter of Gregory M. and Martina (Straub) Farrell. She held several positions throughout her years, including an airline riveter during World War II, a Christmas tree light assembler at Noma Lights, the secretary for St. Joseph Anesthesiology, and a dealer for Golden Eagle Casino. Mickey enjoyed living on the farm with her animals, and welcomed visitors with enthusiasm, food, and drink. Her Irish heritage showed through in her laughter, mischief, and warm hospitality. She loved hosting and entertaining family and friends, making stout margaritas, playing pitch games, and spending time with her generations of family. Friends and family will remember her for her quick smile, vivacious personality, and an enthusiasm for life that was impossible to ignore.
Mickey married Elden Kneib in 1951, G.D. (Pat) Patterson in 1978, and Robert Schecher in 1989.
Mickey was blessed with a loving family who meant the world to her. Her survivors include her children, Michael (Belinda) Kneib, St. Joseph, Michele Drennen, St. Joseph, Joe Kneib, Everest, Gina (Vincent) Grier, Tonganoxie, Kansas; and her step- daughters Margo Ellerman, Effingham, Kansas, and Patti (David) Lehew, Phoenix, Arizona; her grandchildren, Bethanie Bassett, Ridge Drennen, Ryley Drennen, Callan Kneib, Laney Kneib, Lexey Kneib, Lindey Kneib, Archer Grier, Tara Jo Bina, Tyler Lehew, Austin Lehew, Brianna Lehew; and her great-grandchildren, Dylan Bassett, Maddelyn Kneib, Lincoln Drennen, Theo Drennen, Henry Kneib, Abbigail Kneib, Lillian Kneib, Margaret Bina, Ainsley Bina, Henry Lehew, and Jack Lehew.
Mickey was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Schecher; her parents; her brothers, Dennis, Coleman, Matt, Tom, and Gregory Farrell; her sisters, Jean Barry, Mary Ann Umscheid, Patricia Hund, Elaine Summers; her grandson, Bryson Kneib, great-granddaughter, Khloe Bassett; and son-in-law Alan Ellerman.
Mickey will be deeply missed, but her light, love, liveliness, and legacy will continue to shine in the hearts of all who knew her.
Memorials are suggested to St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Purcell in lieu of flowers and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
