Highland Community College names Cameron McGarry as Interim Head Football Coach
HIGHLAND, Kan. (KQTV) -- A change in leadership has come for Highland Community College's football team.
Highland President Vincent Bowhay announced Cameron McGarry will serve as the interim head coach for Highland's game against Hutchinson and Iowa Western.
McGarry rejoins the Scotties from NCAA Division III Lyon College, where he served as a wide receivers coach.
The Frisco, Texas native was previously HCC's wide receivers coach and quarterbacks coach and led a dramatic turnaround in the team's passing game.
McGarry increased Highland's passing output by 152% over the course of two years, taking the Scotties from 157.3 yards per game to 239.27 yards per game in 2024, with 20 touchdowns across 11 games to just nine scores in 10 games in the 2023 season.
Highland quarterbacks averaged nearly 15 yards per completion in 2024 after a mark of just 11 yards per catch in 2023, under McGarry's influence.
McGarry previously served as a graduate assistant wide receivers coach at Dakota Wesleyan University, a NAIA school, where he helped the Tigers end the season on a 4-7 record in 2021.
DWU had a solid yards per completion rate of 11.3, with 10 touchdowns and 1,579 total yards on the season.
McGarry earned a bachelor's degree in Sports Management from Texas Tech University in 2021, where he served as a student Recruiting Assistant for the Red Raiders, adding a Master's in Athletic and Activities Administration from Dakota Wesleyan in May 2023.
