Seven inductees added to the Missouri Veterans Hall of Fame

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (News-Press NOW) -- The 2025 Missouri Veterans Hall of Fame (MVHOF) has announced its 2025 inductees.
The MOHOF recognizes Missourians who served in the military and continue to contribute to their community, state, and nation in exemplary manners in the areas of: Civic and Public Service, Professional Distinction, Veteran Advocacy and Volunteerism.
There are six inductees in total, including an honorary inductee.
The first inductee is John Verle “Pete” Adkins, who served in the Navy from 1943 through 1946. After his time in the military, he became the winningest football coach.
The second inductee is Richard A. Heigert, who served in the Army from 1966 through 1994. Currently, he serves as a member of the national organization’s Children and Youth Committee.
The third inductee is Jim Mayer, who served in the Army from 1968 through 1994. He worked for the VA for 28 years and joined the Wounded Warrior Project staff. Mayer also created a national peer mentor training program to certify wounded warriors, spouses and caregivers to support more recently injured warriors.
The fourth inductee is Frank Robinson, who served in the Army from 1969 through 1971. He is the Director and founding member of Missouri's National Veterans Memorial and serves as Chair of the Love Our Veterans Committee, which was a major fundraiser for veteran initiatives.
The fifth inductee is Roger Brooks Sherman, who served in the Army from 1952 through 1954. He played an active role in passing school bond issues that enhanced education in the Sikeston Public School System and was instrumental in the development and construction of Sikeston’s recreation complex.
The sixth inductee is Clifton M. Smart III, who served in the Army from 1986 through 1990. Smart is known for his active role in community affairs, including Springfield Innovation, Inc. and United Way of the Ozarks.
The honorary inductee is Maxwell Taylor. Taylor served in the Army from 1922 through 1964. Taylor took part in the division's parachute jump into Normandy, the first Allied general officer to land in France on D-Day.
The induction ceremony will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 24, in the Rotunda at the State Capitol and is open to the public.
