NEW EVENT: Saturday, Oct. 04 Shutdown of federal government continues absent Congressional action – Shutdown of U.S. federal government continues, absent Congressional action, after members of Congress failed to pass legislation ensuring funding. Democrats demanded the funding of health care benefits set to otherwise expire, while Republicans said the extension on the table is ‘clean’ and should therefore be accepted by both parties * Shutdown likely furloughs federal employees from work, except those whose jobs ‘protect life and property’ who are expected to work without pay. It also sees closures to federal facilities, and probably delays passport and visa applications and Medicare approvals. Former shutdowns have also led to heavy disruption of air travel and the closer of national parks
