Area cheerleading teams place high at weekend competition

Central High School cheerleaders prepare for state.

LIBERTY, Mo. (News-Press NOW) -- Northwest Missouri Junior High and High School cheerleading teams traveled to Liberty North High School to compete in the Missouri Cheerleading Coaches Association KC Regional Competition.

The competition spanned a total of two days with three sessions, taking place on Saturday, Sept. 27 and Sunday, Sept. 28.

A total of 89 schools throughout the state competed in different classes.

Central High School took first place in the 5A small regional competition. Savannah High School also scored first place in the small Coed 1A-3A regional competition.

Other area schools that competed also include: Platte County High School, which placed third in the 4A large competition; Cameron High School, which placed second in the 2A large competition.

Three area teams competed in the 1A small competition. Nodaway Valley placed sixth, Albany placed eighth and Stewartsville-Osborn placed ninth.

The MCCA St. Louis Regional Competition will take place on Saturday, Oct. 4, at Lafayette High School in Wildwood, Missouri.
