Andy Reid announces the starters will play in preseason opener

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (News-Press NOW) -- With the first Chiefs preseason game right around the corner, the Chiefs finished up their last practice of the week before travelling to Arizona.
Head Coach Andy Reid announced that cornerback Kristian Fulton was activated and did individual work during training camp on Thursday. Fulton came over from the Los Angeles Chargers and has been dealing with a knee injury that placed him on the active/PUP (physically unable to perform) list.
Chiefs wideout Rashee Rice missed practice for the second straight day with a groin injury. Coach Reid said it's a minor injury, but Rice is taking it slow with practice and recovery. Rice is expected to play in the preseason despite a possible suspension looming after his ruling for a hit-and-run in Dallas, Texas, in 2024.
Running back Brashard Smith left Thursday's practice with a finger injury. Coach Reid said the injury is minor as well, and he is expected to play on Saturday.
Coach Reid also announced the starters will be playing the first quarter in Saturday's preseason game against the Arizona Cardinals.
He said Patrick Mahomes and the first team will play the first quarter, Gardner Minshew and the second team will play the second quarter, and Bailey Zappe and Chris Oladokun will play in the second half.
The Chiefs do not have practice on Friday, Aug. 8, and will be back at MoWest on Monday, Aug. 11, at 10:15 a.m. for the last three days of training camp.
