The St. Joseph Mustangs defeated the Sedalia Bombers 6-0 on Sunday evening in the first of two games of a road trip at Liberty Park Stadium.
This was their second road game in three days, as the Mustangs (23-9, 18-7 MINK) fell to the Chillicothe Mudcats at Shaffer Park on Friday night. Sunday night’s victory helps them maintain a two-game lead for first place in the MINK North Division.
The Mustangs scored early when a Logan Rycraft double turned into a triple after a Bombers error, allowing him to advance an extra base. Drew Beazely scored on the play to give the Mustangs a 1-0 lead in the second inning.
St. Joseph got back on the board in the following inning to take an early 4-0 lead. The Mustangs were able to take advantage of the Bombers mistakes in the inning, in route of scoring three more runs.
Karl Koerper scored on a passed ball and Terrance Spurlin scored after being walked in with the bases loaded.
Derek Hussey also scored after Terrence Spurlin singled to give St. Joseph a comfortable lead going into the fourth inning.
Logan Rycraft scored off of a wild pitch to score the first of two runs in the sixth inning. Hussey scored an unearned run after Jordan Maxson had a putout, expanding the Mustangs lead. There were no more runs for the rest of the ball game after this point, giving the Mustangs the 6-0 victory.
Mack Stephenson pitched seven innings for the Mustangs and finished with seven strikeouts against four hits. Garret Presko relieved him in the eighth inning and finished the game off for St. Joseph, ending with one strikeout.
The Mustangs will play the Bombers again for the third time in five days tonight in Sedalia at 7 p.m. They will be back in Phil Welch Stadium on Wednesday when they host the KC Monarchs.
