Kansas City Chiefs quarterback and NFL MVP Patrick Mahomes will be among the NFL’s ambassadors as part of a new academy to encourage British students to learn about American football and possibly play in America.
Based at Barnet and Southgate College, the NFL Academy will open in north London in September for approximately 80 students following a series of tryouts. It will offer student-athletes a change to combine education with life skills and intensive training in the sport under full-time professional coaches.
Some of NFL’s highest-profile stars have pledged their support for the Academy and will serve in ambassadorial roles, which will include regular visits as mentors.
Amabassors include Mahomes, Odell Beckham Jr, JuJu Smith-Schuster, Jerry Rice, Jay Ajayi and Osi Umenyiora.
“I am very proud to be one of the first ambassadors for the NFL Academy in the UK. The NFL Academy’s objective in combining football and education ... is something I am very excited about playing a role in,” Mahomes said. “I can’t wait to see it get started and I look forward to getting over to London to contribute to its success.”
