The Lafayette Fighting Irish were able to pull themselves together at the right time this season as the team entered their Class 4 semifinal matchup against Central (Park Hills) on an eight-game winning streak.
Central entered the contest with six straight wins but were able to make it seven straight after a decisive 82-57 victory in Springfield, Missouri, to send Lafayette to the third place game.
The tale of the contest was foreshadowed in the first quarter as the Rebels took a commanding 29-12 lead and never looked back.
There was a lack of offensive production as the Fighting Irish only scored a combined 23 points in one half compared to the Rebels 47. Lafayette would find more offensive success in the second half, scoring 34 points.
Camden Bennett finished with 20 points, Antonio Williams and Mikey Thomas were the only other Irish in double figures. Central shot an outstanding 60% in the game.
Lafayette will play for third place at 10 a.m. on Friday against Father Tolton Regional Catholic.
