Summer is inching closer.

The St. Joseph Mustangs, who will begin their 11th season this summer in town, released their 2019 schedule Tuesday.

Opening Day will be Wednesday, May 29 against the Midwest A’s.

“St. Joseph is a special place for baseball,” Mustangs general manager Ky Turner said in a press release. “Opening Night on May 29th is the official kickoff into summer, and is a date all of our players have circled on their calendar. I know they’re all excited to come play in front of one of the best atmospheres in summer college baseball across the country.”

As always, the Mustangs promise to feature more fireworks, giveaways and other celebrations for the two months they will play ball at Phil Welch Stadium.

Mustangs manager and St. Joseph native Johnny Coy will begin his second season at the helm. Coy went 24-24 last year.

The biggest change this year is that St. Joseph will host the MINK League All-Star Game. The date is set for Wednesday, June 26, and it will be the third time the Mustangs hosted the All-Star game.

Also, the Mustangs will play a Sunday evening game, which will be held June 23, and a doubleheader against the Ozark Generals on Thursday, June 6.

Other key dates to keep in mind will be the Mustangs Alumni game, which will be held on Friday, June 14, and the honoring of armed forces, which will be back-to-back outings July 3 and 4.

The Mustangs are scheduled to play 27 games at Phil Welch this summer.

Last year, St. Joseph averaged 2,448 fans per game. That ranked eighth nationally, according to the Mustangs.
