Placeholder It's Your Call

Breaking the law

I’d like to respond to the editorial by the St. Louis Post Dispatch about how Gov. Mike Parsons should do something. What is he to do? According to a study published by the Washington Post and Miami Herald, 80 percent of gun crimes are committed by people who do not legally possess the gun. So he is expected to penalize legal gun owners for this? Because if you’re getting your gun illegally, you really don’t care about other laws, do you?

Just men?

In response to “Founders,” the caller who is offended that our Founding Fathers put down on a piece of paper that all men are created equal yet they were slave owners themselves: Well, we fixed that problem. I’m more concerned that our Founding Fathers put down that all “men” are created equal to keep women out of the equation.

Less damage

I don’t care how much President Donald Trump plays golf. It keeps him out of the government.

Just asking

I wish the Buchanan County Commissioners would answer this question: How can 600-foot industrial wind turbines promote the health, safety and welfare of the citizens within Buchanan County?

Help wanted

Again, we have a president going off the rails. The narcissist president who wishes to be a dictator does not and will not listen to any of his advisers. It’s a shame that the Republican Party is continuing to allow Trump to downgrade America and make us a very vulnerable country to the other powerhouse countries of the world. If by chance he were to win a re-election, who would want to work for him?

Dressing up

Why is it OK for a man to paint his face to mock women, but it’s not OK when somebody does blackface? Why is it OK to parody women by making yourself up to look like one, but it’s not OK to parody black people when you make up your face to look like one? The height of hypocrisy.

Integrity

I was very impressed that the St. Joseph Police Department had the integrity to arrest one of their own for domestic violence. So many police departments in the country seem to cover it up and let fellow officers get away with that kind of behavior, and I’m just glad to know it’s not going on here. I hope people remember that when they’re criticizing the police.

11 months. $1 trillion of new debt. Tax cuts sure are doing a great job of paying for themselves. Tariffs too. If this were Obama, the GOP would be holding hearings. Trump? ________________________? Nothing.

REM541

Aj you forgot about the trade deficit. This one's for james, last year the U.S. Posted a trade deficit of $891.2 billion, the largest in the 243 year history of the U.S. And the trade gap with China hit $219 billion another record. Guess who's trade record trump broke, Bush Jr 2006 had a trade imbalance of $838.3 billion. Right before that small economical down turn known as the Great Recession. Sometime facts get in the way don't they james?

aj0201

Excellent points. Debt and deficit spending only matter to Republicans when a democrat is in office.

REM541

I guess that will be in 2020 right on cue. But that means they will have cared about it for 16 out of 20 years by 2028 and that's better then they usually do.[beam]

REM541

Sure is quite, what happen?

I'll bet some people on this page have received the calls I have...…….one is the credit card call...…...I get a call about 6 days out of 7 and they have been present for 5 or 6 years, I have tried everything...…….I have Said "NO"...……...I have said "YES"...….and I've said "what do you want me to say. We should find a way to un load on these people someway...………../

REM541

I never hear from them, but I pay my bills when I have one.

Try just hanging up.

Just hanging up work.

HOLY SMOKES... Elizabeth Warren proposing a wealth tax of 2% on me. Ridiculous !! i may have to downsize my $2200/mo apartment. Don't vote for Warren.....

aj0201

You have a net worth over $50 million and you live in a $2200/month apartment?

zzsnot303

sure, never waste money..

zzsnot303

why not, my women love luxury

“About 40 Iowa National Guard members last year were bused about 23 miles from an airplane refueling stop in Scotland to room overnight at President Donald Trump’s Turnberry resort.

It’s one of at least four separate military stays at the resort that are being investigated by the House Oversight Committee to determine whether Trump improperly gained from U.S. military lodging at his properties”

Show me how many times the military stayed at Trump properties PRIOR to him becoming President.

REM541

I'm sure there is a very reasonable answer. Just like I'm sure that there is a good reason why from 2011 to 2015 political groups and lobbyists had spent $119,000 during those four years. Since then they have spent $5.6 million.

Republican Saine said, "As a former firefighter and an American, I am appalled that anyone in our country would stop going about their normal business on this day. When we stop being a beacon of freedom, hope and democracy , the terrorist win." What scum, he must be talking about his type of voter suppression democracy.

aj0201

While most North Carolinians were remembering the lives lost on Sept. 11, 2001, the Republican leaders in the General Assembly took advantage of a half-empty House and voted to override the governor’s budget veto Wednesday morning.

Gov. Roy Cooper (D) said in a news conference that House Republicans called for a “surprise vote” while he and House members were honoring first responders on the anniversary of 9/11.

Nice to see trumps feathers didn't get ruffled when he discovered Israel was spying on him. No big deal.

aj0201

Gotta keep the dispensationalist Christians happy. Essentially most evangelicals.

REM541

It's a little sad that they can be played so easily.

aj0201

Yep. It’s the sad fact for most self identified “evangelicals.” The nationstate of Israel can do no wrong in their minds.

aj0201

“Vaping” May be one of the dumbest inventions ever, but a presidential ban is government overreach.

zzsnot303

people are dying from vaping FLAVORED e-cigs..what will be, will be...another stupid item squashed

aj0201

People are dying from guns too.

zzsnot303

how about adding motorcycle crashes

aj0201

Sure. Where’s the ban on motorcycles?

popski

Alcohol causes more deaths by far, per anum, than guns. So...where's the ban on alcohol??

aj0201

We tried that once. And alcohol is still more regulated than guns.

aj0201

Alcohol kills far far more people than baking yet Trump isn’t banning it like he is vape.

REM541

Tobacco is responsible for more deaths per year then, AIDS, Drugs, Alcohol, car accidents, murder, and suicide combined.

aj0201

Yet vape is being banned by executive action. Perhaps big tobacco is behind this?

aj0201

President Trump recently tweeted a line graph that shows illegals are not staying in this country at such a high rate and that the number is decreasing. Yet he still believe that a wall is the answer.

zzsnot303

build that wall, throw them out FASTER

REM541

Aj I think you are correct about that bunch having a hard time with line graphs. No $ signs.

aj0201

Pretty incredible, isn’t it?

aj0201

It’s being reported that Trump may follow a French plan to loan Iran billions of dollars if they come back in compliance with the Obama nuclear deal. Let that sink in.

zzsnot303

it's not my money...the cash must belong to aj

aj0201

You don’t pay taxes?

zzsnot303

somehow, i knew you'd ask...my answer is NO

zzsnot303

THINK..there is a difference between evading and avoiding..choose avoidance by all means

aj0201

Are you a citizen?

zzsnot303

yup..a very smart citizen..are you ?

zzsnot303

i host financial management seminars, but not for freeloaders...i don't do ANYTHING for free

aj0201

Then it’s your money, whether you paid taxes or not.

aj0201

Host financial management seminars? 🤣🤣🤣🤣.

zzsnot303

the devil is in the details....

REM541

[scared]

zzsnot303

AGAIN.. tax avoidance

aj0201

Ugh. No wonder your only option was to buy a degree.

zzsnot303

i needed to duplicate your fake degree, but being cooperative isn't your strong point

aj0201

Nope. My lot in life is not to be cooperative with all people.

aj0201

Think about this just for a second....the White House literally asked the government to lie to the people about the weather.

zzsnot303

everyone lies...now have a grand day

aj0201

Impeachable.

zzsnot303

follow the yellow brick (impeachable) road

popski

Apparently ANYTHING President Trump does is an impeachable offense! "GASP!! The President had breakfast!! Impeachable offense!!"

Again, folks...if the Democrats had ANY real grounds for impeachment, it would have already happened.

aj0201

Nope. Compelling a department in the federal government to lie to the American people at the threat of their jobs is impeachable. How you can’t see that is staggering.

popski

Simply your opinion. I find it staggering that everything he does or says seems to trigger impeachment talk. But...once again...if the Democrats had ANYTHING truly impeachable, they'd have already used it and would have already proceeded with the process. The fact they've not done that speaks volumes to those of us who are more logically inclined...

aj0201

There is a 41 member panel that today is discussing options for impeachment popski. You should try reading more. And I agree. It is staggering how often impeachment is mentioned with this president. Maybe he should check himself a bit. And there is no opinion on this issue of lying to the American people. It happened and has been verified. Why are you good with that?

beelog

Thought for the day---Does it not seem ironic that we ban nail clippers from carry-on luggage, yet have no problem with illegals crossing our border with no checks of what is in their backpacks?

aj0201

Hmmm. I wonder why the comment challenging this didn’t make it to this board??? Hmmmmmm

zzsnot303

no biggy...lots of posts don't appear

popski

What part did you wish to challenge?

aj0201

Keep reading popski. “Let’s try again......”

aj0201

Let’s try again. Nail clippers aren’t banned from carry ons. And how do you know backpacks aren’t checked from asylum seekers? Maybe you should rattle your own cage. Something seems to be stuck.....

popski

Actually, aj...you'd be wrong. I've had my nail clippers confiscated at KCI. Perhaps they are not specifically listed in the TSA banned item list, but TSA has, in fact, taken them away from people...including me. So...I'd say that beelog was at least partially correct.

aj0201

They’re not banned in carry on baggage. Period. I’d challenge TSA if they took something of mine that isn’t in a list.

aj0201

Why they took them from you is irrelevant. They’re not banned.

popski

I've learned you don't win in a challenge with TSA at the airport. Again, I'm not saying they are on the banned list, but I know there are those cases when they are confiscated. Betting I'm not the only one who's experienced that.

popski

After visiting the TSA website, I find that nail clippers are, in fact, an allowed carry on item. However, there IS a caveat...a nice little note at the bottom of the page. It reads:

"The final decision rests with the TSA officer on whether an item is allowed through the checkpoint."

Therefore, they've given the TSA officer considerable latitude in making that a personal determination. Guaranteed, you might win the argument but I'd bet you'll miss your flight by the time you get the officer to capitulate...

aj0201

Great. They’re not banned.

popski

Again...depends on the TSA officer you happen to be dealing with. Good luck with your arguing with them...

aj0201

Them exercising judgment at some point isn’t the same as an item being banned. Try taking butane in a flight. Nearly 100% of agents won’t let that through and those that do probably missed it. Nail clippers aren’t banned. Period. Bees post is ridiculous on its face

popski

You should be talking to Bee, then...not me. I never said they were banned. I said I had nail clippers confiscated at KCI. Apparently, a TSA officer took exception to them...though I can't imagine why. I also watched a TSA agent confiscate a mother's breast milk, even though she had originally been told it was OK for her to have that. She argued and was removed from the gate area, along with her baby. She didn't make the flight. She might've been correct...but she still missed her flight, thanks to the TSA.

James Bond1

An absolute rule...……...never disagree with the TSA...………...A number of times I have faced nail clipper or sissors or something being confiscated and before the bad choice was made, I managed to ask the TSA person "How do I handle my nail clippers properly on a flight"...…….and each time the agent gave me an option.

aj0201

popski, you responded. He didn’t. Of course, he rarely does.

jdw64485

Border screening. Sounds like a good plan. But not sure how to accomplish it.

zzsnot303

let aj be in charge of border screening...NOBODY WILL ENTER because aj asks so many questions the immigrants will be scared away LOL

zzsnot303

Democrats will be discussing impeachment options unto eternity...no matter what scenario they come up with, Trump will NOT be impeached..bank on it

beelog

Integrity---The concept of "bad policemen" has been blown out of proportion. The vast majority behave in an extremely professional manner, despite having to deal with the dregs of society on a daily basis, putting their lives on the line daily, often in very hostile situations. Like us, they want to go home safely at night---and they face situations in which that might not happen. Try it sometime and you will likely see situations in which you will feel fear, but these men and women put their lives on the line anyway so that the rest of us are protected from some of the "animals" which roam our streets.

aj0201

Are you familiar with the phrase “one bad apple spoils spoils the bunch...?”

beelog

I advise you not to call the cops if you are being robbed, you might get a "bad apple".

aj0201

It’s possible. Not likely but possible. Good cops don’t like bad cops anymore than the rest of us. They bring down morale faster than anything else. But make no mistake, many departments have bad cops on the roster.

aj0201

It exists right here in St Joe and Buchanan county.

beelog

Help wanted--(Trump)---You will have an opportunity to voice your opinion at the ballot box in November 2020. I hope you will be mature enough to accept the results. If a Democrat wins, you won't see Republicans crying in the streets, marching in protest and damaging property. Republican will react as mature adults. Think about that for a moment, because it defines the difference between the membership of both political parties.

zzsnot303

Democrats love to riot and damage property, we all know THAT

beelog

Less damage---(golf)--it applies equally to Congress---the longer they are out of session, the better off all of us are.

beelog

Just men---Caller, I suggest you do a little research on the etymology of the "male, man, female, woman". In Old English "man" pretty much translated to "humanity" which is not gender specific. Most of our language derived from Latin and Greek although there is also influence from other languages. Word evolve, primarily from general usage. When the forefathers used the term "man" it is generally interpreted as meaning "humanity", which as stated, is not gender-specific. Blame whoever you want, but most words have a long history of ever-changing development.

beelog

Breaking the law----Although there have been too many high-profile mass shootings, the majority of gun deaths occur in the inner cities, using illegally obtained guns. Common sense (an increasingly scarce commodity) tells us there is a problem in our inner cities. But, insanely, Democrats want to punish legal, law-abiding citizens who have never harmed anyone with a gun. Why? Because they feel it is "politically incorrect" to address the real problem. Therefore they jump up and down, screaming at the NRA which promotes gun safety. Whenever there is criticism of their voting base, they are going to ignore the true problem---it is all about votes for the Democrats. The Party whose policies have created the violence in this country now wants to take away the right to defend yourself from the thugs they have created.

aj0201

What democrat policies create violence?

beelog

For one, telling the people they are "entitled"---it becomes an excuse for any behavior.

aj0201

Show me the policy that “tells people they’re entitled.”

James Bond1

It begins when they wake up in the morning...………….!

REM541

Typical no substance.

WrightWinger

The Democrat House Judiciary Committee is this week preparing "firearm control" legislation to be voted on by the entire (Democrat-controlled) House. One inclusion is a "red-flag" law to enable family members to refer to authorities others they feel may be so mentally ill as to be denied gun ownership. In committee, an amendment was approved to allow referrals from anyone who has known or ONLY CLAIMS TO HAVE KNOWN in the past 12 months a person they think unfit to own firearms. The liberals are not only after our 2nd Amendment rights, but also our 4th Amendment protections.

REM541

Did you see just yesterday a father called the police on his son because he was worried that he would hurt someone. When they caught up to him he had withdrawn money from his account and was looking to purchase a gun. He later admitted he planned on killing people. Seems that was a success.

beelog

And no law required---common sense was applied.

Marty_Chuzzlewit

If the anecdote above actually occurred, that is exactly the way gun violence can be thwarted. Both the father AND police acted responsibly to prevent what could have been a deadly event. That is FAR different from what the Democrats are promoting, a 1-800-RED-FLAG number ANYONE can call anonymously and name ANYONE as a potential killer.....and ruin a life.

REM541

Yes indeed it did happen in Fort Worth. The reason they were able to stop him is due to mental illness. He had been to a few gun stores and had been refused. However if he had gone to a Gun Show or an individual which is what he was trying to do a background check could be ignored. Also if the individual was a law abiding gun owning individual the police would not be able to do anything because of the lack of a red flag law no matter what his dad said.

munchman

Help Wanted and now the rest of the story. "President Donald Trump's aides and confidants are concerned about his mental state after days of erratic behavior.

"His mood changes from one minute to the next based on some headline or tweet, and the next thing you know his entire schedule gets tossed out the window because he's losing his s---," one former White House official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss internal conversations about the president, told Insider.

Trump has spent the past several days fixated on his false claim over the weekend that Hurricane Dorian was going to hit Alabama. He has also lobbed attacks at his perceived enemies, like the actress Debra Messing, former FBI Director James Comey, and the "LameStream media."

"He's deteriorating in plain sight," one Republican strategist who is in frequent contact with the White House told Insider on Friday.

But a person who was close to Trump's legal team during the Russia investigation told Insider his public statements were "nothing compared to what he's like behind closed doors."

"He's like a bull seeing red," this person added. "There's just no getting through to him, and you can kiss your plans for the day goodbye because you're basically stuck looking after a 4-year-old now."

munchman

Making up do you have any idea of the words, insulting, racist, let alone what ignorant mean?

beelog

Munch---why does it only work one-way?

popski

Munchman, it appears to me the caller understands those words perfectly...thus the crux of their call...highlighting the hypocrisy.

zzsnot303

munchbaby practices those words every day..and MORE

popski

Some folks are perpetually offended. I have a T-shirt that says "OLD LIVES MATTER"...and I think it's funny. I've had a couple of individuals who tell me that's offensive because it detracts from the "BLACK LIVES MATTER" mantra. Personally, I disagree and don't really care. I still like my shirt!!

aj0201

But.....isn’t your shirt a sign of being offended by the “Black Lives Matter” issue? I was never offended by that comment.

popski

Nope...not at all, aj. I think ALL lives matter, regardless of age, color, personal preferences, etc. I just like poking fun at my own age...thus, the tshirt!

Marty_Chuzzlewit

Kaepernick is the test dummy for anything to be offensive to anyone

aj0201

So you weren’t offended by the Black Lives Matter movement?

popski

I think I already answered that...

REM541

Lack of humor? Some just want to be offended, wear the shirt and let it out a smile on your face.

popski

Thanks, REM...I do think it's humorous!! The BEST part is...the letters are VERY LARGE...to accommodate us old people's failing eyesight!! LOL!!

REM541

That hits close, I need new glasses.

REM541

Pop out s/b put.

beelog

I like your shirt! No doubt it will offend the perpetually offended.

aj0201

We’re you offended by the Black Lives Matters movement?

REM541

Aj if your asking me well no, I have a black lives matter shirt. Side note, I also ordered the homemade Tennessee shirt to. Why a black lives shirt would offend someone is beyond me. Makes you wonder what it is about the shirt that gets to them.

aj0201

Asking bee

REM541

Just making sure, I like to answer questions posed to me. B- won't answer but we know, we know.
