It doesn’t stick
Talk about a shocker. I was conversing with a couple of young friends and made the remark that the idea of Velcro was made from the weed, cockleburs. The response, “What is that?” took me by surprise. They really didn’t know. Has that weed been made obsolete so long ago? My, how time flies.
Well, it seems even with the queen’s help, the politicians and their lawyers have figured out a way to keep the British subjects from leaving the EU. That’s sad, but we found so much of that going on in our own country.
In response to “Dazed and confused”: Why should President Donald Trump worry about a hurricane? He can’t do anything about it. He can’t tell it to change its course, he can’t tell it not to hit our country … so what’s he supposed to do? We’re supposed to panic over things he can’t change?
Please write your congressperson to stop the taxpayer subsidies for buying electric cars such as Teslas. Every time a wealthy person buys one, about 9 percent of the cost is paid with government tax dollars. You know, Elon Musk is already a billionaire. Why is the middle class subsidizing his cars? Until they can compete on the same playing field as gasoline-powered cars, they should cost much more and not be something the poor subsidize for the rich.
No new taxes
It looks like St. Joseph’s sewer king, former Mayor Bill Falkner, is at it again. Does he want more and new taxes? If this tax is necessary, earmark what it is going to be used for. Don’t add a tax for tax’s sake; have a sunset on it, don’t collect it forever and then waste it lining the congressmen’s pockets. P.S. I am against all taxes.
Editor’s note: Falker is a member of the Missouri House, not the mayor of St. Joseph. A state sales tax for online purchases is a matter of public policy debate, but there is no evidence it would personally enrich elected officials.
Eight and up
You know, when I went to school, way back when, I went to eighth grade in high school. It was eighth, ninth, 10th, 11th and 12th. We didn’t have a middle school and it worked out just fine. Why talk about closing the high schools instead of the middle schools? Maybe that would be the solution. There’s nothing wrong with an eighth-grader going to high school.
Social Security is for those who have paid into it. Don’t be surprised what the government can do. Last year, I received a letter from Social Security stating how much I was going to receive. Because my investments had made some money, they decided to take $200 from my check. I am 86 years old, and worked until I was 76. Trump will do anything. Bet they wouldn’t take anything from him, so keep your mitts off.
